I want to tell it to you straight. A photo can mean anything to the viewer, yes – true. So no need for a caption.
This photo features architectural lines, and we can comment on its excellent framing etc. – it is stunning. It’s one of the main subjects for technical photography. But just like there’s work going on in that building, so showing these is having an effect greater than demonstrating technical competency in photography.
Because showing these without a comment, especially given the framing – without backdrop, quite apart from the everyday world, It’s like we are made to be in awe of the lines, the building, the enterprise. Some kind of awe, even if mixed with dread. So it habituates us. I think it’s better to havve a caption, when you show it, like why show it? Because it leaves you/me cold and wishing for a real life, without financial oppression, cold materialism,...look what we built, look we are beyond the humble peasant’ s hut with their naive belief in spirit, and a healthier and happier life without supermarket bum cloth and hidden masters.
